Andorra la Vella's traffic service issued 43 fines during the first quarter of 2026, following 104 static checks carried out across various points in the parish. The operations aimed to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with current regulations.
Of the penalties processed, 27 related to using a mobile phone while driving, making it the most common violation identified by municipal officers. Another 11 fines were for not wearing a seatbelt. The remaining cases included two for revving engines and creating unnecessary noise, one for improper overtaking, one against a motorcyclist for not wearing gloves, and one for lacking documentation or a breathalyser test.
In parallel, Xavier Surana, the parish councillor for traffic and parking, announced this week at a parish meeting plans to roll out a video surveillance system featuring around 200 cameras throughout 2026. The local authority intends to expand this to 400 cameras in total, positioned in communal areas, car parks, playgrounds, the riverside walkway, and various streets.
