Andorra Road Accidents Rise to 533 in 2025, Fatalities Plunge to One

Andorra's roads saw 533 accidents in 2025, up from 456 the previous year, but fatalities dropped sharply to one death from a pedestrian collision, compared with seven in 2024.

Police released the figures yesterday, noting 268 incidents involved injuries totalling 304 people affected. Of these, 30 suffered serious injuries, an increase from 24 in 2024. Most victims were men (195) aged over 30 (185).

Accidents peaked in July with 56 cases, followed by August (54) and February (49), periods of high tourist traffic. Lower numbers occurred in May (32) and September (38). Andorra la Vella recorded the most at 165, one more than in 2024, followed by La Massana (77, up five) and Escaldes-Engordany (73, up from 66). Ordino had the fewest with 13, up from eight.

By type, there were 57 crashes, 46 pedestrian incidents, 35 rear-end collisions, 44 instances of vehicles leaving the road, and eight motorbike falls. Most involved one or two vehicles; only one crash had five or more, down from three in 2024. Passenger cars featured in 585 cases, motorcycles in 176 and vans in 45, for a total of 858 vehicles across all incidents.

Alcohol or drugs played a role in 16% of accidents (87 cases), similar to 18% in 2024. Police issued 160 administrative fines and 357 criminal sanctions overall, mostly for alcohol over 0.8g/l in blood (340 arrests, 159 fines), plus seven combined with drugs and three refusals to test.

Police also handed out 12,477 traffic fines in 2025. Speeding accounted for 8,908, or about 72%, the lowest in six years and down 31% from 11,711 in 2024. Mobile radars caught 3,313; fixed ones led at Bordes d'Envalira on the CG-2 (1,637), CG-1 in Santa Coloma (1,236) and the Dos Valires tunnel section (832).

Other common fines included 737 for overdue ITV inspections (up from 590), 311 for lacking insurance proof, 269 for ignoring horizontal road markings, 146 for mobile phone use, 135 for not wearing seatbelts and around 50 for illegal overtaking.
