107 Andorran-Plated Vehicles Hit Wild Animals on Catalan Roads in 2025

Vehicles with Andorran licence plates were involved in 107 collisions with wild animals on Catalan roads during 2025, according to figures from the Servei Català de Trànsit. The highest number of incidents occurred in the Alt Pirineu and Aran region, with 45 cases, followed by Terres de Ponent with 38 and Catalunya Central with 16. Fewer accidents took place in other areas: five in Camp de Tarragona, two in the southern metropolitan area and one in Terres de l'Ebre.

This year, up to 20 April, 23 Andorran-registered vehicles have been caught up in similar crashes in Catalonia. Terres de Ponent again recorded the most, at 13, with six in Alt Pirineu and Aran, three in Catalunya Central and one in Camp de Tarragona.

Wild boars account for the majority of these collisions, said Eduard Fillet, director general of Occident insurance. Most happen outside Andorra, particularly in Alt Urgell, while incidents in the Principality remain sporadic.

In contrast, Andorran police report just two such road incidents since January 2025. The first came on 30 May at kilometre 21 on the CG-2 near the Envalira tunnel entrance, where a driver struck a roe deer that crossed the road suddenly. The animal survived and headed into the mountains; authorities later notified the Banders corps. The second occurred on 25 June on the same road at the Canillo entrance, where a roe deer was found showing signs of having been hit.

Insurers advise calling police or Mossos d'Esquadra after any such crash to obtain an official report confirming animal involvement. Fillet noted this step is essential for processing claims smoothly. Coverage depends on the policy, but comprehensive insurance or specific wildlife guarantees typically apply. Repair costs often start at around €1,500 and vary by vehicle, he added.
