Air Nostrum Cancels Palma-La Seu Flights After Week of Airport Disruptions

Air Nostrum has cancelled Saturday flights between Palma de Mallorca and Andorra–La Seu d'Urgell airport due to a technical issue with the aircraft, unrelated to other recent disruptions at the facility.

The suspension affects both the inbound flight from the Balearic island and the return journey, capping a difficult week for commercial operations at the Montferrer aerodrome. The airline has stressed that the Palma problem is aircraft-specific and distinct from prior incidents.

This comes after Friday's Madrid-La Seu flight diverted to Lleida-Alguaire airport because of weather conditions that prevented normal operations at La Seu, company sources said. Outbound passengers from La Seu to Madrid travelled by road to Alguaire—about two hours each way—to board. Inbound travellers from Madrid, whose plane landed at Alguaire, also required ground transfers to reach their destination.

The disruptions trace back to Sunday, when a Madrid-La Seu flight returned to Barajas after a pressurisation fault—described in some reports as an air conditioning issue. Affected passengers, including tourists bound for Andorra, stayed overnight in Madrid hotels, flew to Barcelona on Monday, and took coaches to La Seu. On arrival, no shuttle service was available, leaving some to hire taxis or accept rides from locals who had driven their own cars to the airport.

Some of those Sunday passengers faced further issues Friday on their return to Madrid, also diverting via Alguaire due to weather.

Iberia-Air Nostrum has offered €250 compensation plus a new ticket for those hit by the Sunday incident, to be issued within seven days. A Mexican tourist from Cancún, visiting Andorra for the first time, never landed at or departed from La Seu.

Safety remains the airline's top priority, but passengers have voiced frustration over repeated logistical challenges, even as they acknowledge the emphasis on secure flights. No timeline for resuming normal services has been given.
