Air Nostrum Andorra Flights Hit by Multiple Disruptions: Diversions, Cancellations and Fault

Air Nostrum flights to and from Andorra–La Seu d'Urgell Airport have faced further disruptions, with a new weather-related diversion of Sunday's inbound Madrid service to Lleida-Alguaire compounding issues from earlier in the week, including Friday's similar diversion, Saturday's Palma de Mallorca cancellations, and a prior pressurisation fault.

The latest incident involved a Madrid-bound flight departing Barajas around 5:50pm on Sunday. After up to three landing attempts at La Seu d'Urgell, the aircraft diverted to Lleida-Alguaire due to poor weather conditions. Inbound passengers then travelled by road to the airport, while outbound travellers from La Seu d'Urgell were bussed to Lleida for a delayed departure around 10pm, arriving late in Madrid.

This follows Friday's Madrid flight, where strong winds led the pilot to abort up to five landings before diverting to Lleida-Alguaire. Both inbound and outbound passengers completed journeys by road, with some Friday return travellers including those affected by Sunday's earlier pressurisation issue. That Sunday flight had returned to Barajas after the fault—initially reported by some as an air conditioning problem—stranding passengers overnight in hotels. They flew to Barcelona the next day and transferred by road to La Seu d'Urgell, where no shuttle buses awaited, forcing some to take taxis or carpool with locals who had driven from Andorra.

Saturday's Palma de Mallorca flights, both directions, were cancelled due to an unrelated aircraft technical issue, leaving the plane unavailable.

David Forné, Andorra's Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility, accepted Air Nostrum's explanations for the weather diversions, noting the pilot's safety decisions, but criticised the lack of detail on the Palma cancellation. "We have little information and we don't like it," he said, adding that it would be raised in upcoming meetings. "We need to meet soon." Forné expressed sympathy for affected passengers, including tourists like a visitor from Cancún who neither landed nor departed from La Seu d'Urgell, and stressed government oversight amid a 25% year-on-year passenger rise.

Air Nostrum confirmed the Palma issue and Friday diversion were unrelated to the pressurisation fault, and is providing €250 compensation plus a new ticket within seven days for that incident. The airline offered no further details on assistance for recent diversions. Regular users and tourists have voiced frustration over the four disruptions in under a week, as operations face greater scrutiny with growing traffic.
