- Six-month project starts September, budgeted €500K in 2026 and 2027.
Andorra la Vella council has opened a national public tender for a one-million-euro overhaul of the Aigüeta and Europa passages, aiming to turn the 2,000-square-metre commercial corridor into a greener pedestrian space and climate refuge.
The initiative targets the key walkway linking Avinguda Meritxell to the Prada Ramon district, a popular route for shoppers, restaurant-goers, and residents. Plans call for boosting vegetation with new gardens and trees, adding rest areas with benches and other urban furniture, and applying sustainable water management. The layout will prioritise walkers while designating separate zones for controlled access by delivery vehicles and private parking.
Works will also modernise public lighting with new lamps, upgrade stormwater drainage networks, renew water meter registers, and install waste bins along with a fountain.
The six-month project is expected to start in September, once nearby private developments conclude after years of delays. The one-million-euro budget will be split evenly across 2026 and 2027 budgets, with 500,000 euros allocated each year as roughly half the work spans into the following year. The project is already drafted and updated.
Cònsol Major Sergi González described the tender launch as a decisive move to address a longstanding oversight for the passages. He stressed the aim of creating a high-quality setting for residents and traders by replacing paved surfaces with rest areas, greenery, and features that enhance local commerce and dining while serving as a climate shelter.
