Andorra Vehicle Registrations Surge 16.4% in May, Hybrids and Passenger Cars Lead Growth

Vehicle registrations in Andorra climbed 16.4% in May to 532 units from 457 a year earlier, with passenger cars showing the strongest growth and hybrids gaining further ground, according to figures released Thursday by the Department of Statistics.

Passenger cars rose 21.8% to 369 from 303 units, accounting for the bulk of the increase. Among the total, 395 registrations involved new vehicles and 137 imported used ones. Trucks and vans edged up 5%, while the "other vehicles" category jumped 61.5%. Motorcycles and mopeds fell slightly by 1% to 100 units from 101.

Year-to-date through May, registrations reached 2,312 vehicles, a 10.3% gain from 2,096 in the same period of 2025. Passenger cars led with 1,625 units, up 184 or 12.8%. Other categories also advanced: "other vehicles" by 46.2% to 24 units more, trucks and vans by 3.2% or six units, and motorcycles/mopeds by 0.5% or two units.

Hybrids registered 138 units in May, 38 more than the previous year. Non-plug-in petrol hybrids surged 56.9% to 80 from 51, while non-plug-in diesel hybrids climbed 50.8% with 30 additional units. Fully electric vehicles hit 36, up nine or 33.3% for the month, though the year-to-date total dropped 10% to 90 from 100. Fuel-free vehicles doubled to 12. Petrol registrations increased 8.4% and diesel 1.4%.

Over the past 12 months, registrations totalled 5,668, up 13.7% from 4,986. Non-plug-in petrol hybrids led absolute growth at 951 units, a 43% rise or 286 more. All categories grew: "other vehicles" by 65.7%, trucks/vans by 24.5%, passenger cars by 14.2%, and motorcycles/mopeds by 1.4%.

Seasonally adjusted data indicated a 0.6% monthly increase overall. Passenger cars rose 0.1%, motorcycles/mopeds 0.5%, while trucks/vans dipped 1.5% and "other vehicles" 0.9%.
