Andorra Boosts La Seu Bus Trips to 40 Daily, Adds App Integration

Bus services between Andorra la Vella and La Seu d'Urgell will expand to 40 daily trips per direction on weekdays from 1 September, following an initial rise from 29 to 32 trips from 1 August, operator Hife has confirmed.

State Secretary for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility David Forné detailed the changes at an event in Parc de la Mola, Escaldes-Engordany. He described public transport as a cornerstone of the current legislative term, noting that frequencies doubled from around 14 to 30 in 2023, leading to more than a 100% increase in users despite an 11% rise in cross-border workers.

The line recorded 268,453 journeys in 2025, averaging 735 daily passengers, up from 341 before the expansion. Cross-border workers, numbering about 1,900, now account for 40% of riders. Forné said this has reduced cars on roads and contributed to a 5% drop in overall traffic last year—the first such decline in years. He linked the progress to measures including roundabouts and works on Carrer de la Unió.

From 1 August, Monday-to-Saturday services will run every 30 minutes, starting at 7am from Caldea (last at 10.30pm) and 6am from La Seu (ending 10pm). Sundays and holidays increase from 13 to 16 trips, now covering Christmas and New Year's Day, with hours from 8am to 11pm at Caldea and 7am to 10pm from La Seu.

On 1 September, Hife will add a hybrid vehicle for weekdays, allowing peaks every 15-20 minutes. New Caldea departures include 7.45am, 9.45am, 11.45am, 3.45pm, 4.45pm, 5.45pm, 7.45pm and 9.45pm. From La Seu: 6.45am, 8.45am, 10.45am, 2.45pm, 4.45pm, 6.45pm and 8.45pm.

Users will access real-time bus locations via the Mou-te app from September, initially on the four operating vehicles, with the new card integrated across national lines. Ticket payments via app will follow later, while onboard card payments begin between September and October. Forné said the expansion requires no extra government funding, as it stems from service reorganization and operator coordination, boosting performance for both companies.
