Andorra Boosts La Seu Bus Trips to 40 Daily, Adds App Integration
State Secretary David Forné announced the upgrade at Parc de la Mola, highlighting doubled ridership and a 5% drop in road traffic amid rising population. Safety enhancements on Carrer de la Unió have sharply reduced incidents.

Bus services between Andorra la Vella and La Seu d'Urgell will increase to 40 daily trips per direction on weekdays from 1 September, building on an initial expansion from 29 to 32 trips starting 1 August, operator Hife has confirmed.
State Secretary for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility David Forné outlined the upgrades at an event in Parc de la Mola, Escaldes-Engordany. He positioned public transport as a priority for the legislative term, pointing to frequencies that doubled from about 14 to 30 trips in 2023. This drove more than a 100% rise in users, even as cross-border workers grew by 11%.
The line logged 268,453 journeys this year, averaging 735 daily passengers—up from 341 previously. Around 1,900 cross-border workers represent 40% of riders. Forné noted fewer cars on roads as a result, alongside a 5% drop in overall traffic last year, the first in years. He credited infrastructure like roundabouts and Carrer de la Unió works.
From 1 August, Monday-to-Saturday services run every 30 minutes, with Caldea departures from 7am to 10.30pm and La Seu from 6am to 10pm. Sundays and holidays rise from 13 to 16 trips, now including Christmas and New Year's Day, from 8am to 11pm at Caldea and 7am to 10pm from La Seu.
Hife adds a hybrid vehicle on weekdays from 1 September for peaks every 15-20 minutes. Extra Caldea times: 7.45am, 9.45am, 11.45am, 3.45pm, 4.45pm, 5.45pm, 7.45pm, 9.45pm. From La Seu: 6.45am, 8.45am, 10.45am, 2.45pm, 4.45pm, 6.45pm, 8.45pm.
Real-time tracking launches on the Mou-te app in September for the four vehicles, with national line integration. App payments come later; onboard card options start September-October. Forné said no extra public funds are needed, thanks to operator coordination between Hife and Camino Bus, which has improved revenues.
He defended Carrer de la Unió changes amid criticism, calling the street more orderly and safer. Traffic there fell 21% in May and 26% in June. Forné added irony to the debate—"changing a traffic light here sparks a national discussion"—but affirmed satisfaction shared by many, including Andorra la Vella commune officials. Authorities will monitor data and adjust if needed after several months.
Department director Carles Miquel and a new Hife bus joined the event.
