Escaldes-Engordany Launches Pradràs Pilot Parking and Shuttle to Engolasters

Escaldes-Engordany council is set to introduce a pilot parking area at Pradràs, near the Font de la Closa picnic site, along with a free shuttle bus service to upper Engolasters, from July 4 to September 7.

The measure seeks to regulate traffic, boost safety, and preserve the environment in this popular summer destination. Once the Camp del Serrat parking lot reaches capacity, drivers must use the new facility, as roadside parking on the narrow mountain road will be prohibited. Comú major Rosa Gili highlighted the risks involved, stating that the Camp del Serrat lot cannot handle peak crowds. "It's a very busy area, and at certain times many vehicles pile up," she noted. "We were concerned about safety because the Camp del Serrat parking doesn't meet the demand from large visitor numbers."

The council has rented and prepared about 4,500 square metres of land, providing space for around 100 vehicles, at a yearly lease of €18,000, plus €20,000 for the shuttle. Both parking and the daily service, running from 9am to 6pm and connecting Pradràs to the upper lake area, will be free of charge.

Tourist coaches can drop off passengers at Camp del Serrat but must then park in a dedicated zone at Pradràs. Information points will operate at both sites, with food trucks and visitor guidance available at the new location.

Gili stressed that the changes address vehicle overflow and hazards from informal parking. The council plans to assess the pilot's performance at the end of summer to consider any adjustments.
