Andorra Approves €1.37M Hospital Heliport Rehab and €30K Fire Station Design

The Andorran government has approved a €1.37 million tender for rehabilitating the heliport at Nostra Senyora de Meritxell Hospital in Escaldes-Engordany and contracted ENGITEC SA for €30,000 to design upgrades to the emergency heliport at the Santa Coloma fire station.

These projects form part of the government's strategy to modernise key infrastructure, boosting safety, efficiency and response capabilities for essential services, particularly in aerial emergency operations.

At the hospital, the works address issues with the fifth-floor roof covering. Contractors will repair and waterproof the paving, restore structural components, update signage and lighting, and add fire protection systems to meet contemporary safety and functionality requirements.

The initiative falls under an extraordinary credit approved in May, totalling more than €5 million. This funding also covers high-precision medical technology and upgrades to hospital spaces and equipment, aiming to build a more innovative, efficient public health system focused on citizens' needs.

Separately, ENGITEC SA must complete the fire station design within two months. The planned enhancements will update the facility to support civil protection operations, improving logistics for specialised air transport in emergencies.

The Council of Ministers greenlit both the hospital tender and fire station contract on Wednesday, advancing broader efforts to adapt infrastructure to current standards amid growing demands on public services. No timeline has been announced for the hospital construction or follow-on fire station implementation.
