Five Andorran nationals suffered injuries, three of them in critical condition, following a car crash on a rural road in Ribera d'Urgellet in the Alt Urgell region on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred on a track near the Borda del Poblador, running parallel to the C-14 road and close to the Segre River at the Pla de Sant Tirs. The vehicle veered off the path and plunged down a 10-metre drop, overturning in the process. Emergency services received the alert at 18:09 after one occupant managed to escape the wreckage and call for help.
The Catalan Medical Emergency System (SEM) reported three people in critical condition, one with serious injuries, and one with minor injuries. The critically injured were airlifted to separate facilities: Hospital Parc Taulí in Sabadell, Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida, and La Seu d'Urgell Hospital. The seriously injured patient was taken to Arnau de Vilanova in Lleida, while the least injured received treatment at La Seu d'Urgell Hospital.
Responders mobilised extensively for the rescue. SEM deployed two medical helicopters, three ambulances, and a joint team with the Generalitat Fire Service. Firefighters contributed five ground units and an additional helicopter to support the operation.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with no further details released at this stage.
