La Massana to Build 50-Space Car Park and Sports Square in Escàs

La Massana parish council plans to construct a 50-space public car park alongside a landscaped square and multi-sports court in the Escàs neighbourhood, addressing local parking shortages while creating a new community recreation space.

The project will occupy a 2,271.79-square-metre plot purchased by the council in 2024 specifically for this initiative. The ground level will house the parking area, a waste collection island, drinking fountains and bicycle racks. Above ground, a 1,300-square-metre garden plaza will serve as a gathering spot for residents, paired with a 15-by-25-metre sports court.

A tender for the construction will appear this week in the Official Bulletin of the Principat d'Andorra (BOPA). The estimated total cost stands at 3.3 million euros, funded through multi-year budget approvals. This year, an initial site preparation phase will proceed with around 100,000 euros allocated.

Works councillor Kevin Poulet described the Escàs development as part of a broader council strategy to provide public parking across parish neighbourhoods. He pointed to planned spaces in Pal and L'Aldosa, plus a 5,500-square-metre plot in Arinsal already functioning as an informal car park. Poulet emphasised that expanding parking capacity ranks as a key infrastructure priority, directly tied to residents' quality of life. The council intends to acquire more land to bolster public facilities and meet current and future needs. This follows the Torrepuis car park, which opened in Anyós last July.
