Parking operators at Aparking Vinyes in Andorra la Vella have closed one of the facility's elevators due to water leaks originating from the Plaça del Poble remodelling works directly below.
A notice posted on the equipment confirms the shutdown, though it provides no details on the extent of the damage or an expected reopening date. The leaks date back to June last year, according to Vinyes Patrimonial, the company that owns and operates the parking. The issue has now entered the courts after the Batllia admitted a claim filed by the company last June. Vinyes Patrimonial accused the Andorra la Vella commune of negligence causing material damage.
Recent rain has aggravated the infiltrations, with water dripping into the private vehicle parking area and threatening the elevator. Technicians, reportedly commissioned by the commune, conducted tests that appear to have triggered fresh leaks, prompting the precautionary closure several days ago to avoid equipment failure or safety risks.
Operators express growing frustration with the prolonged disruptions, which have persisted for nearly a year, and what they describe as unkept commitments from authorities, including Cònsol Sergi González. Sources from the facility say the owners feel ignored by officials and exasperated by repeated fixes that harm previously repaired sections. "The property is fed up with the situation and no longer knows which way to turn," they noted.
The company has launched legal proceedings and intends to pursue them more aggressively in search of a lasting solution. No timeline exists for restoring the elevator, which awaits drier weather and repairs. The commune has yet to respond publicly to the latest developments.
