Encamp Closes Carrer de Sant Romà for Final Les Bons Renovation Phase
Encamp council has closed Carrer de Sant Romà completely for six days to finalize utility connections and paving in the Les Bons core renovation. Free parking and transport support residents, with emergency access ensured.
Key Points
- Full traffic closure on Carrer de Sant Romà from Oct 5-10 for utility linking and paving.
- Limited resident access via Carrer de les Bons with traffic light; free parking at Arinsols provided.
- Project by Entrimo Construccions costs €2.3M, delayed 6 months, full completion in 1.5 months.
- Upgrades include green areas, networks, and public spaces near Romanesque complex.
The renovation of Les Bons traditional core in Encamp is entering its final phase, with Carrer de Sant Romà facing a complete traffic closure from 8am on Monday, October 5, until 8pm on Saturday, October 10.
Work crews will operate continuously over these six days to link utility networks and lay permanent paving. Residents with small vehicles can still enter part of the area via Carrer de les Bons using a traffic light for alternating access. The Encamp council is easing the impact by allocating one free parking space per household at the Arinsols car park and providing transport for those needing it, particularly people with mobility issues. Emergency services will have dedicated access protocols.
After this closure, crews will install urban furniture including benches, bins, and railings, along with public lighting, garden features, and planters. Officials anticipate completing the entire project in about a month and a half.
Contracted to Entrimo Construccions for nearly €2.3 million with a 10% contingency, the works started late in 2024 and have run six months behind the initial schedule. Previous phases renewed streets using asphalt and granite, upgraded drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater networks, buried lighting and telecom lines, modernized Andorra Telecom and power systems from FEDA and Unió Elèctrica d'Encamp, and enhanced the washhouse surroundings in Plaça del Torrent.
The upgrades emphasize more green areas, notably along Carrer de Sant Romà, to improve public spaces and access to the nearby Romanesque complex. This effort aligns with council plans to revive traditional zones in lower Tremat, La Mosquera, and Encamp village, with upper Tremat to follow.
Plans were presented to locals in May 2024, tendered in June, and awarded in October for an 18-month term. A November letter and meeting kept residents informed, and no prior full closures were required despite nearly two months of on-site activity.
