RN320 Closure Near L'Hospitalet Forces Andorra Traffic onto Winding RN22 Detour from June 1

Major travel disruptions into Andorra from France are set to begin on 1 June with the full closure of a key section of the RN320 near L'Hospitalet, forcing all traffic to Pas de la Casa onto the winding RN22 detour until 29 October 2026.

The French road authority will shut down both directions of the RN320 from 20:30 on 1 June through 29 October 2026. The affected stretch runs from the northern entrance of the Puymorens Tunnel to the RN22 junction. Works focus on completing the 300-metre avalanche gallery, inaugurated late in 2025 to protect the route from a high-risk corridor, one of the most hazardous points on the road to Pas de la Casa—a main entry from the French side. Remaining tasks include final adjustments and repairs to the bridge over the Ariège River just beyond the gallery.

The RN22, locally called the "route of the curves" or "route des couleuvres," will serve as the official detour starting the morning of 2 June. On the night of 1-2 June, while crews install signage and barriers, additional restrictions will apply: the RN320 will close as far as the Croisade junction, routing Pas de la Casa access through the Puymorens Tunnel, then along the N320 and N22 via Porté-Puymorens.

Authorities expect the nearly five-month closure—described in some reports as four months—to significantly extend journey times on the sinuous alternative, though it ensures continued access during peak summer travel.
