Andorra Telecom Opens New Retail Store at Node Building in Capital

Andorra Telecom has launched its new retail store at the Node building in Andorra la Vella, featuring dedicated zones tailored to different customer needs based on service complexity and speed.

The facility at Carrer de la Borda 6 on the ground floor includes areas for quick transactions like prepaid card purchases, tables for standard inquiries such as fibre optic sign-ups, private rooms for complex business consultations, and self-service screens for automated tasks like top-ups. This setup aims to cut wait times, prioritise intricate cases and empower users for simple operations. The store handles over 70,000 in-person visits annually—one every two minutes, stable in recent years—plus 300,000 digital transactions with 10% yearly growth and 150,000 phone queries, which are declining.

Director general Jordi Nadal described the layout as client-focused, noting it opened six weeks ahead of other Node phases thanks to builder coordination. Staff now occupy initial floors, with full headquarters operations by January 2027. It operates 9am-6pm weekdays and 9am-2pm Saturdays.

The inauguration also unveiled the adjacent 1,850-square-metre Plaça de Bombers, donated by Andorra Telecom to Andorra la Vella commune. Bounded by Avinguda Meritxell, Carrer de la Borda, Carrer Sant Salvador, Carrer Riberaigua and Prada Ramon, the wooden public space replaces the former fire station and links retail zones in Riberaygua and Travesseres.

Head of government Xavier Espot, who chairs Andorra Telecom's board, praised the project as shared-value urban development under a 2021 agreement with the government, commune and company, allocating at least half the site to public use. He said the square goes beyond corporate needs to create activity and quality of life for all.

Cònsol major Sergi González welcomed the name to preserve neighbourhood firefighting history, pledging events to foster community and draw more footfall to local commerce.

Nadal confirmed works started in May 2024, staying within the €25 million budget through early material buys—plus €700,000 for an unplanned museum fit-out—amid a €28.5 million total. Mossèn Ramon Sàrrias blessed the store and square during the event, which included a ribbon-cutting, tours and refreshments.

Coinciding with the opening, the Arxiu Nacional released 1970s photos by Fèlix Peig of the "original Node," the site's first Servei de Telecomunicacions d’Andorra headquarters from 1976, Andorra's inaugural automatic telephone exchange. Node construction continues progressively.
