Andorra Cuts Diesel Prices by 15 Cents Per Litre Through September

Andorra's fuel stations have adjusted prices with the start of September, reducing diesel by 10 cents per litre to 1.628 euros while raising unleaded petrol by 5 cents to 1.631 euros at outlets like one on Encamp's ring road.

The shift stems from updated discount rules approved in mid-July to preserve price advantages over Spain. Unleaded petrol aid has fallen to 5 cents per litre from 10 cents in August, matching initial plans. Diesel support has instead risen to 15 cents per litre from 5 cents last month, prompted by sharper rises in Spain that threatened Andorra's edge.

Drivers filling up from Tuesday noticed the changes immediately, with station signs reflecting the new rates. The enhanced diesel discount—achieved through a partial tax refund and station contributions—applies provisionally while formal legislation is finalized in coming days. Once approved, it will include retroactive effect before Bulletin Oficial publication, as occurred in July.

Fuel importers and distributors must pass full savings to consumers, submit sales data, prices and proof to the Department of Taxes and Borders, and adhere to prior requirements. Association president David Porqueres highlighted the aim of maintaining competitiveness, noting both fuels now hover around 1.60 euros per litre—still 3 to 5 cents below nearby Spanish stations like Esclat Oil in La Seu d'Urgell or low-cost sites near Guissona, where diesel stands at 1.606 euros and 98-octane petrol at 1.589.

Government officials view the measures as vital to easing energy cost pressures on households and the economy amid international volatility, including Middle East tensions that pushed diesel up 10 cents since August 11. Recent regulations set claim procedures, with ongoing trend monitoring. Porqueres stressed a cautious stance given Brent oil fluctuations, saying all parties must share burdens to react to market shifts and restore prices to early May levels.
