Four teams of architects have submitted proposals to redesign Avinguda Sant Antoni, La Massana's principal urban thoroughfare.
The parish council has concluded the submission phase of its national ideas competition for the avenue's remodelling, pedestrianisation, and enhancement. A technical evaluation committee, comprising representatives from the La Massana council, the Col·legi Oficial d’Arquitectes d’Andorra, and the Col·legi Oficial d’Enginyers d’Andorra, will assess the four entries and choose the winning design according to the competition's established objectives.
Works Councillor Kevin Poulet stressed the importance of determining the desired avenue model ahead of time. He explained that construction will occur in stages after the new bypass road opens, calling it an exceptional chance to reimagine the parish centre and create a more inviting area for strolling, socialising, and supporting local businesses.
The initiative aligns with a comprehensive overhaul of La Massana's core, linked to the bypass project. This new route aims to relieve through-traffic in the urban area, lower environmental pollution, and allow the avenue to become a safer, greener, and more engaging space for locals and visitors.
The council is also partnering with the Andorran Chamber of Commerce and parish traders to collect suggestions that will inform the avenue's final layout.
