La Querola luxury residential project in Ordino, designed by Jean Nouvel with Ribas & Ribas Arquitectes and Jordi Sala, has won all three categories entered at the NY Architecture Awards 2026, just 22 days after a major fire partially destroyed the site.
The development earned gold awards in Residential Architecture – Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Homes, for its energy efficiency, environmental integration and harmony with the Ordino valley landscape, and in Residential Architecture – Urban Residential Design, saluting the quality of its spatial layout and residential complex cohesion. It received silver in Residential Architecture – Luxury Residences, acknowledging premium materials, distinctive finishes like the slate facade and upscale living concept.
An international jury evaluated entries from around the world, focusing on innovation and inspiration in architecture. Promoters hailed the results as proof of the design's outstanding merit and seamless fit within Ordino's terrain.
The fire struck on 22 September, causing significant damage mainly to some housing units and prompting damage assessments and recovery efforts. Promoter Jordi Cerqueda indicated reconstruction could take about 18 months, aiming for residents to return by spring 2028.
Promoters view the awards, arriving amid these challenges, as elevating Ordino and Andorra's global profile. They stressed the project's enduring quality and their resolve to press ahead with undimmed commitment.
The New York successes add to earlier nods, such as selection for the Dezeen Awards 2026 and a finalist spot in the FAD Architecture and Interior Design Awards.
