Canillo Unveils Tech-Infused White Night of Monuments with Drone Show and Immersive Mapping

Canillo parish council has unveiled a special edition of the White Night of Monuments on 16 May, merging cultural heritage and spring traditions with technological spectacles including a drone show and immersive mapping at Sant Serni church.

The programme, presented at Cal Federico by Coia Torres, councillor for Citizen Participation, Communication and Innovation, and Robert Lizarte, director of Culture and Traditions, begins in the afternoon with guided tours of the Sant Serni bell tower. Evening highlights feature the traditional Mai planting at Prat del Riu with the Esbart Valls del Nord dance group and Marc Figuerola, followed by a concert from Tuc de Neu. Free bus services will run to Santa Creu and Sant Miquel de Prats churches, where the historic Cal Ton de Borró shop will open exceptionally. Sessions of Canillo Legends with Alfred Llahí are set for Cal Federico.

New attractions include the drone show *Cel, llum i memòria*, deploying 200 drones at 21:30 to form shapes inspired by parish history and identity over Canillo's sky—it will shift indoors on 17 May if weather intervenes. At Sant Serni’s apse from 21:00, immersive mapping projections every 20 minutes will depict key local episodes, from heritage to the recent Women’s Copa del Mon, with music and effects; no booking needed on 16 May. Repeat mapping sessions are scheduled for 17, 22, 23, 29 and 30 May, plus 5, 6 and 7 June.

A preview of a replica altarpiece from Sant Miquel de Prats—using the surviving predella, Mont Gàrgan and Angels panels, plus 3D and photographic recreations—is planned, with the full installation likely next year.

Torres described the drone and mapping displays as "spectacular and pioneering in Andorra", blending tradition with innovation to vividly recount Canillo’s stories. Lizarte called the event a cornerstone cultural occasion, highlighting heritage through engaging, open formats. All activities are free for residents and visitors.
