Arinsal's annual festival continued with its 13th edition of the Atrapa el Formatge cheese chase on Saturday, filling the village with races, laughter, and festive energy during the ongoing Festa Major.

The event, held on the Marrades ski slope, saw groups of participants chasing a giant mock cheese wheel in a high-spirited downhill pursuit inspired by British cheese-rolling traditions. Organisers praised the strong turnout and the attendees' enthusiasm, noting the mix of physical activity, falls, tumbles, and playful competition across age categories. The race has become a highlight of the La Massana parish celebration, blending fun with the festival's lively atmosphere.

Held amid improving weather following earlier poor forecasts, the cheese chase provided an energetic unofficial launch, even as church bells signalled the formal start. It set the tone ahead of the botifarrada barbecue with aioli and other weekend draws.

The two-and-a-half-day festival features a Saturday lineup of the Ruta de la Tapa food trail, music performances, foam parties, chocolate tastings, and children's events. A second-hand market runs through the main days, followed by a solemn mass on Sunday. The festivities conclude that evening at 10 p.m. with fireworks.

Locals and organisers described the chase as a lighthearted cornerstone of Arinsal's summer highlight.
