Andorra la Vella's Plaça del Poble hosted the fourth Volunteer Fair on Saturday, the first time the event took place outdoors after previous editions at the Congress Centre. The change aimed to boost visibility for the 23 participating associations, promote collaboration among them, and attract new volunteers by showcasing local opportunities.

Culture Minister Mònica Bonell inaugurated the gathering, which groups had requested last year to draw in more passersby. She stressed how the public setting allows residents to connect directly with organisations, understand their missions and requirements, and explore ways to get involved.

Bonell underscored government commitment to the sector, citing a bill introduced in parliament last week to revise the 2010 Volunteer Law. The proposed changes seek to protect volunteers' rights and align regulations with contemporary practices. She called on associations to offer input during the legislative review.

Groups expressed support for the reforms, even without full details. Audrey Montel, president of GosSOS, viewed expanded protections as a welcome advance that raises their profile. Lluís de Juan, a Red Cross volunteer, saw it as essential for solidifying the volunteering landscape.

Joaquim Pujol, who leads the government's Youth Participation and Volunteering Area, noted that authorities sought early feedback, with some entities responding and others still able to contribute. Sandra Cano, president of the At-Risk Youth Association, appreciated the inclusion of their perspective and intends to assess the draft for further remarks.
