Andorra's domestic energy production surged 72% in March compared to the previous year, exceeding a 3% decline in total energy demand to 56,971 MWh.
Imports fell more sharply by 12.3% to 45,862 MWh, according to data from energy authorities and Estadística. First-quarter electricity demand totaled 183,132 MWh, down 0.02%, while the 12-month rolling total reached 584,191 MWh, a 1.6% decrease from the prior period.
In tonnes of oil equivalent (TEP), March demand rose 5.5% to 20,084.3 TEP, driven by increases in petrol (18.9%), domestic heating oil (8.3%) and automotive diesel (5.5%). Electricity demand dropped 3.2%, alongside declines in butane and propane. Cumulative first-quarter demand stood at 59,255.5 TEP, off 0.5%, but the 12-month total climbed 0.5% to 201,065 TEP.
FEDA, Andorra's main electricity provider, recorded 36,149.9 MWh in customer demand for March, a 2% reduction. Demand rose 4.9% in financial services and 2.7% in other services, offsetting a 4.8% drop at ski resorts. FEDA's first-quarter figure was 115,966 MWh, up 0.9%, with the 12-month total at 371,789.2 MWh, a 1.7% increase.
The data highlight robust local generation amid mixed consumption trends across energy types.
