Andorra Recerca + Innovació (AR+I) is organising a free nighttime outing on Thursday, August 13, to explore the country's nocturnal moths, known locally as pitavoles. The guided activity is part of the 19th Moth Night, a pan-European effort in which scientists survey moth species across the continent and compile their observations.
The event starts at 9pm at the Cabanes del Castellar, with the group then moving to the Tristaina area just before kilometre 21 on the CG-3 road. Expert Éric Sylvestre and AR+I researchers will offer an introduction to these insects before deploying an ultraviolet light trap to draw in and identify as many species as possible.
Participation is free but places are limited, requiring advance registration by emailing info@ari.ad or calling 742 630. The outing has the backing of the Societat Catalana de Lepidopterologia and the Comú d'Ordino.
