Andorra to Tender New Socio-Healthcare Residence Near La Cortinada

The Andorran government is preparing to launch a public tender within weeks for a new socio-healthcare residence near La Cortinada in Ordino parish.

Social Affairs Minister Trini Marín made the announcement during celebrations for the Meritxell festival for elderly residents at the El Cedre Socio-Healthcare Centre. She said the project is advancing through its administrative phase, with an architect appointed and a feasibility study underway. The exact site, on government-owned land, will be disclosed soon, though Marín noted the number of places remains undetermined pending architectural plans.

The facility aims to combine multiple services for older adults, including 24-hour residential care, serviced apartments, and potentially rehabilitation units akin to those in other centres. Officials are still evaluating management options, such as full public operation or a public-private concession model.

Marín highlighted persistent demand pressures, with 43 people currently on the waiting list for residential places—though 22 receive day centre support, five have home care, and the rest manage at home without services. She noted these figures vary due to place turnover or temporary private options while awaiting subsidised spots.

Andorra now provides 272 residential places, up from 232 earlier in the legislative term, with 72% under formal agreements. Day centres offer around 130 places across nearly all parishes with no waiting lists, while home care serves 216 users this year with a fully staffed team and no backlog.

This public project will complement a private residence under construction in Encamp, where authorities have secured agreements for 65 of its 120 places.
