63-Year-Old Man Arrested in Encamp for Hit-and-Run Drunk Driving

Police in Encamp arrested a 63-year-old man this weekend after he caused a collision involving only material damage on the Carretera dels Cortals and fled the scene.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the driver struck another vehicle. He left without providing details or waiting for officers. Police located him minutes later, administered a breathalyser test, and detained him after it showed a blood alcohol level of 3.37 g/l. Authorities charged him as the alleged perpetrator of an offence against road safety.

This case forms part of six recent arrests for driving under the influence. The other five drivers, aged 21 to 44, tested positive at levels between 0.87 and 1.48.

In separate incidents, police detained a 53-year-old man overnight at the Riu Runer border crossing for an alleged offence against the administration of justice after driving with a suspended licence.

On Friday morning, officers arrested a 27-year-old tourist entering the country at the same border point in possession of 1.3 grams of cocaine, facing charges related to public health offences.

Additionally, at Pas de la Casa, police took into custody a 33-year-old non-resident for an alleged offence against public function by breaching an expulsion order.
