Andorra Women's Tennis Team Gears Up for Billie Jean King Cup in San Marino

Andorra's women's tennis team is preparing for the Billie Jean King Cup Europe Group IV, scheduled from June 15 to 20 at the Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio in San Marino.

Captain Joan Jiménez will direct players Vicky Jiménez, Laura Pichel, and Judit Cartañà as they compete against 13 nations—Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, and host San Marino—for two promotion spots to Group III.

The squad approaches the event with ambition to advance further and build on the rising profile of women's tennis in Andorra. Jiménez emphasized the players' readiness and drive. "The girls arrive in good shape and eager to compete. We'll see how the tournament unfolds, but I believe we have the team to put in a strong performance and go as far as possible," he said.

Cartañà shared similar enthusiasm, pointing to enhanced preparation from past editions. "We're very motivated, we have plenty of desire, and I think we form a solid team. Now it's time to compete and see how far we can go," she noted. She added that the group has trained more this year, gained extra experience, and enters better equipped for the demanding schedule. "They know the competition better now, and that always helps. They arrive with more match practice and preparation."

Jiménez highlighted the tough opposition, naming Luxembourg as a top contender due to its high ranking, along with teams regularly competing at higher levels. "It will be a major challenge," he said. The draw remains pending, leaving specific matchups undecided.

The participation underscores Andorra's efforts to strengthen its standing in international women's tennis.
