BC MoraBanc Andorra Extends Chumi Ortega's Contract to 2028

BC MoraBanc Andorra has officially renewed guard Chumi Ortega's contract until June 2028, securing the Spanish-formation player as the first extension in the club's new project.

The 28-year-old from Yecla, who arrived from Zunder Palencia in summer 2024, featured in 33 games this season with an average of 11 minutes, 1.8 points, 2 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and a 2.4 valuation. His minutes dropped sharply under coach Žan Tabak, including just one second in the final match against Barça. This followed a stronger debut campaign of 16 minutes over 34 games for 3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and a 4.0 rating under Natxo Lezkano and Joan Plaza.

The club praised Ortega's intensity, sacrifice, and team spirit, noting he has become one of the fans' favourites after two seasons in the Principat. "He perfectly represents the values of work, sacrifice, and commitment that identify our project," the statement said.

Ortega shared his delight after the announcement: "I'm very happy to continue being part of this club. From day one, I've felt very comfortable on and off the court and very appreciated by the fans. The trust from the club and the people makes this renewal very special." He pledged to maintain his approach: "I'll keep working as always, giving my all every day to help the team keep growing."

The deal, agreed before general manager Francesc Solana's dismissal and Jordi Ardèvol's appointment, raises MoraBanc's cupo count—required at four minimum for Liga ACB teams—to five: point guard Rafa Luz, Andorran Aaron Ganal (who does not count), Ortega, forward Kostas Kostadinov, and center Rubén Guerrero. All remain contracted.

A club insider described Ortega as a true team player focused on enabling stars to succeed. The renewal precedes a likely two-year extension for Tabak, who secured survival after replacing Plaza. Ardèvol eyes a committed coach like Joan Peñarroya or Ibon Navarro amid past tensions with Plaza.

Point guard Shannon Evans II (13.4 points, 5.5 assists, 14.3 valuation) and Kostadinov (4.2 points, 2.4 rebounds) face uncertain futures despite deals. Evans, holding a Guinea passport, attracts interest from Río Breogán and UCAM Murcia. Kostadinov's potential NCAA move, including to Wisconsin, would open a cupo spot and prompt market moves.
