MoraBanc Andorra Extends Coach Zan Tabak to 2028 for New Era

MoraBanc Andorra has extended head coach Zan Tabak's contract through June 2028, securing the Croatian for two more seasons as the club launches its new sporting project under director Jordi Ardèvol.

The renewal, announced Thursday, follows Ardèvol's official presentation as sports director the previous day, replacing Francesc Solana. Club president Gorka Aixàs described Ardèvol's arrival as one of the most significant changes in the club's history, aimed at rebuilding a recognizable identity despite limited resources.

Tabak, who took over last season from Joan Plaza amid a fight to stay in Liga Endesa, brought discipline and competitiveness that ensured survival in the ACB. His extension provides stability after a turbulent year and aligns with Ardèvol's vision. "Zan is the ideal person to understand what the club and the country want," Ardèvol said, confirming he reviewed Tabak's work and consulted others before endorsing the continuity. The coach will now help shape the roster alongside the new director.

Ardèvol, speaking with pride about his "huge responsibility," especially with a nation behind the team, outlined plans for a more physical and athletic squad. He seeks players eager to grow, make a name in the league, and commit to Andorra—balancing veterans, newcomers, and talents like youth prospect Aaron Ganal for a core of 12 players plus one from the academy. Changes will build gradually, he stressed: "This won't happen in one summer," and the market will dictate pace.

While European competition would attract talent, Ardèvol rejected it as an immediate goal, prioritizing daily improvement. He noted challenges like the US college market drawing away prospects such as Kostas Kostadinov.

Tabak expressed delight at the deal, saying he felt "very happy and honoured" to continue, with "ambition and feet on the ground." His focus: "keep growing as a team and being competitive." Aixàs had earlier positioned Tabak as central to the rebuild.
