Referee Alonso de Ena Wolf Demoted to Third Tier After Andorra Clashes

Spain's Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) has demoted Alonso de Ena Wolf from Segunda División duties for the 2025-2026 season, confirming his drop to Primera RFEF alongside three other officials.

The CTA released its referee rankings on Monday, listing the Aragonese referee among those leaving professional football. He will be joined by Álvaro Moreno Aragón, Sergiu Claudiu Mureșan, and Miguel González Díaz—suspended earlier this year after his arrest on suspicion of sexual assault. Their positions will be taken by promoted referees including Luis Bestard Servera, Jon Ander González Esteban, Carlos Muñiz Muñoz, and Manuel Jesús Orellana Cid from Primera RFEF, while Iosu Galech Apezteguía and José Luís Guzmán Mansilla drop from Primera División.

The move stems from the CTA's comprehensive evaluation process, incorporating physical and technical tests, observer reports, AI analysis, independent analyst assessments, and technical committee input. The committee does not release individual scores or tie demotions to specific matches.

De Ena Wolf's demotion follows a contentious season marked by clashes with FC Andorra. Tensions escalated after the club's home game against Albacete, which resulted in heavy sanctions for Andorra and prompted sharp criticism of his decisions and match report. The team had lodged similar complaints following an earlier match against Mirandés, alleging inaccuracies in the documentation. FC Andorra formally requested that De Ena Wolf not officiate their games again—a step underscoring significant distrust—and warned of legal action without corrections.

Gerard Piqué, the club's majority shareholder, amplified the dispute by publicly challenging what he saw as repeated adverse calls against Andorra, fuelling broader debate on league refereeing.

While the decision highlights De Ena Wolf's overall performance did not meet professional standards, it does not endorse FC Andorra's specific claims. He will not referee in Segunda División next season, where Andorra faces a competitive field of 22 teams, 17 of which have prior top-flight experience.
