Andorran figure skater Raül García Shibinskiy from the Federació Andorrana d’Esports de Gel (FAEG), also known as Andorra Club Gel, finished 17th at the Junior Grand Prix in Xi’an, China, securing qualification for the World Junior Figure Skating Championships for the first time in Andorran history.
García posted a total score of 160.43 points, including a technical mark of 82.01, to meet the minimum standards for the event in Sofia, Bulgaria, set for 24 to 28 February 2027. Andrea Pazos Guerra, also from FAEG, placed 32nd with 65.87 points in the same competition. Both were coached by Eric de Mena, the club's general manager.
The performance offers crucial international exposure ahead of the next Junior Grand Prix in Batumi, Georgia. García has also earned a spot in the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity programme, supported by the Andorran Olympic Committee and government sports agencies. He continues high-performance training in Moscow following time in Italy.
