Pau López Joins FC Andorra on Three-Year Deal After Girona Stint

Pau López, the 31-year-old Spanish international goalkeeper formerly with Girona, has signed a three-year contract with FC Andorra, including an option for a fourth season. During his official presentation on Tuesday at the Nou Estadi de la FAF in Encamp, he described the move as one of the most exciting decisions in his career, blending sporting ambition with personal appeal.

The Catalan keeper, who has played for Espanyol, Real Betis, Roma, Olympique de Marseille, Girona and Deportivo Toluca, explained that after fulfilling early career goals, he sought a growing project where his family could flourish. He and his wife have long holidayed in Andorra, praising its peace and sense of disconnection. "It's a place where we've always felt happy," he said, adding that it offers the right environment for his children.

López made clear he arrives without a guaranteed starting spot ahead of Nico Ratti and Jan Lagunas. "No place assures you minutes," he noted, stressing that despite his experience, he must prove his level to play. The past two years of limited action reignited his drive to improve and contribute, on or off the pitch.

He praised the squad's dynamic, particularly captain Ratti, whom he called "the most important person at the club right now" for his constant training, leadership and support in helping López settle. The side's style under coach Carles Manso demands patience and composure from goalkeepers during build-up—a approach he relishes—while emphasizing intensity, pressing and a clear identity to stay competitive.

In parallel, FC Andorra has paid its outstanding debt to former coach Eder Sarabia, around €460,000, and awaits validation from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to unlock player licenses. Separately, the club has loaned Andorran player Aron Rodrigo to Mirandés for the 2026/27 season in Primera RFEF, aiming to boost his development through regular minutes.

López focused on building consistency beyond last season's end, avoiding promotion talk but urging fans to back the team and fill the stands to foster a distinct on-field character in the even-tempered Segunda División.
