Andorran Cyclist Adrià Regada Finishes 94th at Under-23 Road World Championships

Regada completes demanding Montreal course; junior Èric Sinfreu forced out by mechanical failure

Adrià Regada, representing the Andorran Cycling Federation (FAC), finished 94th in the under-23 men's road race at the World Championships in Montreal. He crossed the line in 4 hours, 34 minutes and 46 seconds, 9 minutes and 47 seconds behind the winner, American Ashlin Barry.

Regada stayed competitive for much of the race on a circuit that progressively thinned the field. An early breakaway of five riders pulled ahead from the start, while he remained in the chase group. With four laps to go, he was part of a pursuit pack trailing the leaders and a secondary group of six. The race fragmented two laps from the end, when his larger group of 93 riders split. Unable to bridge to the front, Regada dropped back due to accumulated fatigue and rode the final lap alone. He held on to finish without being lapped, unlike around 80 of the starters who did not complete the course. Barry claimed the rainbow jersey in 4:17:35.

In the junior race, Èric Sinfreu of Ordino suffered bad luck on his World Championships debut. He abandoned after the second of 10 laps when his bike seat broke, cutting short a strong preparation phase.

The Andorran team's next outing will be the under-23 European Road Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from October 2 to 7, featuring Regada alongside Gerard Mora, Enzo Fuentes and Sinfreu.
