Andorran cyclist Adrià Regada secured 94th place in the under-23 road race at the UCI World Championships in Montreal, finishing the demanding circuit in 4:34:46, 9 minutes and 47 seconds behind winner Ashlin Barry of the United States.
Regada, competing for the Andorran Cycling Federation (FAC), held position within the main chase group for much of the 10-lap event as the peloton thinned. A five-rider breakaway established an early lead, with Regada tracking alongside a secondary pack of six riders four laps from the end. The race fragmented decisively two laps out, when the primary bunch of 93 riders split. Unable to connect with the front selection, Regada faded under mounting fatigue, completing the final lap solo to earn his finish among roughly 80 survivors from the starters.
Teammate Èric Sinfreu of Ordino faced misfortune in the junior category race. On his World Championships debut, he abandoned during the second of 10 laps after his bike seat snapped, ending his run prematurely.
Regada formed part of Andorra's under-23 team with Gerard Mora, Enzo Fuentes, and Sinfreu, who are set to race next at the European Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from October 2 to 7.
