Xavi Jové secures 88th place in elite category at Belgium event

Andorran cyclist Xavi Jové finished 88th in the elite category at the European Gravel Championships held in Houffalize, Belgium, on Sunday. Representing the Andorran Cycling Federation (FAC), he completed the 143-kilometre course in 4 hours, 37 minutes and 27 seconds.

The event drew 1,799 riders from 28 countries, with 195 competing in the elite men's race. Denmark's Mads Schmidt claimed the title in 4 hours, 9 minutes and 57 seconds, finishing nearly 28 minutes ahead of Jové. Belgium's Wout Alleman and Niels Vandeputte took second and third places, respectively, with times of 4:11:06 and 4:13:40.

Starting from the back of the grid, Jové faced a challenging opening amid crowded early kilometres filled with bottlenecks. The course featured three laps around a circuit. He gradually built pace, reaching within 8% of the leader by the second lap. Physical issues emerged during the final lap, contributing to his 88th position among the elite field.

Jové, an experienced international competitor, navigated the demanding gravel terrain strategically over the long distance. Reports from the FAC highlighted his progressive performance despite the setback. Authorities have yet to release full official results beyond elite rankings.
