Andorra U21 Hosts Moldova in Euro Qualifier Revenge Bid

Andorra's under-21 side aims to overturn a recent 3-0 defeat when hosting Moldova in their penultimate Group D European Championship qualifier. The team sits fourth with seven points from a strong campaign including a historic draw against England.

Key Points

  • Andorra U21, with senior players Marc de Castro, Àlex Cornella, and Gerard Solà, plays Moldova at Estadi Nacional tonight at 7:30pm.
  • Andorra 4th with 7 points; Moldova 5th with 5 points after 4-1 loss to England.
  • Moldova beat Andorra 3-0 in June return fixture; Andorra drew 1-1 with England in March.
  • Final group match vs. leaders Slovakia next Tuesday.

Andorra's under-21 national team, bolstered by three players from the senior squad, hosts Moldova this evening at Estadi Nacional in their penultimate Group D qualifier for the European Championship.

The match begins at 7:30pm local time. Coach Eloy Casals has called up goalkeeper Marc de Castro, defender Àlex Cornella and forward Gerard Solà from the absolute team to strengthen the side. Andorra holds fourth place with seven points from two wins, one draw and five defeats.

The visitors sit fifth on five points under Sergiu Cebotari. Their most recent outing ended in a 4-1 loss to England, with Vasile Luchita scoring their lone goal.

Casals' players seek revenge following Moldova's 3-0 victory in the return fixture on 10 June 2025 in Nisporeni, where Mihai Lupan, Nicolae Rotaru and Vladislav Costin found the net. It marked Moldova's second win over Andorra, after a 3-1 success in the Principality in March 2010.

Andorra last played on 27 March, securing a notable 1-1 draw against reigning champions England at home. Gerard Solà put them ahead before Rico Lewis of Manchester City levelled from the penalty spot in the 90th minute. That result saw Andorra become the first team in the group to score against and claim points from the English.

This campaign already surpasses the previous European qualifying phase, in which Andorra managed 10 matches without a victory, earning just three draws. The final Group D clash follows next Tuesday at home against leaders Slovakia, with England and Ireland ahead in the standings.
