Andorra Opens 200m Elevated Walkway Linking Stadium to Sports Facilities
Territory Minister Raül Ferré inaugurated a 200-metre elevated path in Andorra la Vella that provides safe, direct access above the CG-1 highway, resolving prior crossing hazards at a cost exceeding €250,000.
Key Points
- New walkway along CG-1 eliminates two road crossings for safer pedestrian access from Estadi Comunal to Serradells.
- Project cost over €250,000, completed in six weeks with drainage and tree work.
- Territory Minister Raül Ferré highlights safety priority and similar paths in Tarter and Erts.
- Major roadworks like Rocafort tunnel and Massana-Ordino bypass on track for 2026-2027.
Territory Minister Raül Ferré has opened a new 200-metre elevated pedestrian walkway along the CG-1, enhancing links between Estadi Comunal in Andorra la Vella and the Serradells sports facilities.
Located on the right-hand side beside Estadi Comunal Joan Samarra Vila, the path stretches from the footbridge to the La Comella roundabout. It eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross the road twice, addressing previous safety concerns for those travelling to the sports area. Ferré stressed that safety remains the top priority, creating a protected route above the carriageway and under the stadium parking. The walkway now allows direct two-way access.
The project, finished after roughly six weeks of construction, exceeded €250,000 in cost. New drainage channels rainwater into the main system to avoid flooding, while work along Avinguda de Salou involved pruning or removing damaged trees—following recent incidents that disrupted traffic and struck vehicles—and preserving healthy ones. A mesh of shrubs now greens the embankment.
Ferré highlighted similar safety-focused walkways, such as one in Tarter and the nearing completion of the final section into Erts from Massana.
He confirmed ongoing major roadworks are progressing on schedule: the Rocafort tunnel in Sant Julià de Lòria, the Massana and Ordino bypasses, and the CG-2 expansion at Trava near Canillo's northern exit. Ferré said no priorities exist among them, with all advancing as planned despite initial delays for tenders and preparations. The Rocafort tunnel should open in winter 2026-2027, while the Massana-Ordino bypass targets 2027 completion. "If they finish on the timelines set, I'll be satisfied," he remarked.
On central valley congestion in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany—the key remaining traffic challenge—Ferré deferred road dualling at Obac or alternatives like the Solà tunnel to future governments. The Obac option, studied years ago, would boost capacity and divert central traffic. "A decision or another will need to be made," he said, leaving it to successors after current projects wrap up this legislature.
